Solve Common Problems With Windows 8

One morning upon arriving on work table, the office PC suddenly says Windows 8 with the fanciest start up page.  Don’t panic, it’s just a new program that you’ll eventually get used to. Despite the bad reviews, Windows 8 is not so bad.  Here are common problems and how to deal with them.

windows 8

Issue no. 1:  Now knowing where to access your daily program like the music player, MS Office, and all your trustee programs.  Solution:  The widget that appears when hovering on the right-most side will give you access to search, settings and start.  It’s almost the same as the start icon in Windows 7.  When you can’t find a program, simply click start and look for the icon on the classy start up page.  Or just click search and type the program that you’re looking for.  Another option is by clicking the folder on your task bar at the bottom of the screen and looking for the programs in the file explorer can help too.  The best way to avoid these hoops is to place a short cut on your desktop.

Issue no. 2:  The anti-virus trial version that came with the Win 8 package keeps popping up. It says it’s about to expire that you should buy the complete version.  Solution: If you don’t want to purchase the subscription for the anti-virus program, you can uninstall it by first going to the control panel.  Click on the Programs to display all the installed software in your PC. Then right click on the anti-virus software and you will find the Uninstall option.

Issue no. 3:  There’s no sound on YouTube videos.  Answer:  Click on the volume icon on the taskbar.  Go to any YouTube video and make sure it’s playing.  Stay on the site then click on the volume icon while the video silently plays.  Click on Mixer and there will be three volume controls.  The third volume control might be set on zero, so drag it up to start hearing sounds from YouTube.

Issue no. 4: Some old programs are freezing up. Answer:  You can end the frozen program by pressing Ctrl, Alt and Del at the same time. Then click on Task Manager and choose the program that you need to close by right-clicking on the software’s name.  A more permanent solution is through diagnosing the program compatibility.  This can accessed through file explorer and right clicking on the program.  Choose properties and click on the compatibility tab.  Run the Troubleshooting program to start fixing program issues.
